Connection heads
Connection heads serve as a sealed rotary connection between a pipe and a rotating machine part such as a roller, a cylinder, a drum or a mixer.
Various media such as water, steam, thermal oil, mixed material, sludge or waste water can be fed or discharged through the connection head. The connection heads are used on calenders, roller conveyors and similar applications.
Rixen connection heads are mainly made of galvanised steel with internal sliding parts made of stainless steel. The seals are made of hard carbon with different impregnations for the various areas of application.
Advantages of the connection heads
The particular advantages of our connection heads are their simple installation, low-maintenance operation and repair-friendly design. The ball sealing rings simultaneously fulfil the task of bearing and sealing and, like the bearing bush, are self-lubricating. The wearing parts can be replaced quickly and easily.
Pressure and temperature range: 40 bar - 250 °C
Size: DN 13 to DN 200
Special design
Many special designs for special installation dimensions and requirements as well as applications, for example with TÜV approvals etc. are possible and included in our delivery programme.

We manufacture components for connection heads in a wide range of sizes and assemble them with the utmost precision.
Connection heads with rotating inner tube
For connection heads with a rotating inner tube, it should be noted that the flat surface of the bearing bush is also the sealing surface for the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet pressure. For pressure differences of more than one bar, the inlet must be placed in the outer connection so that the fluid pressure supports the spring pressure when it presses against the sealing or flat surface.
The inner, usually loose connecting tube (rotating inner tube), which forms the connection between the connecting piece of the connection head and the machine journal, should be supported in the connecting parts in such a way that the pressure difference of the liquid between the inlet and outlet is absorbed by it. A complete seal is not usually required.

Connection heads with fixed condensate pipe
When using the connection heads in conjunction with longer condensate pipes, as is the case with rollers, it must be ensured that these are well aligned and sufficiently elastic. In addition, they must not hang too heavily in the connection head. This applies to both heated and cooled rollers.
When storing the tubes inside the rollers, it is advisable to use a roller with an outer diameter that fits through the hole in the ball socket.
