Founded in 1929 by Wilhelm Rixen in Hamburg-Ottensen, Wilhelm Rixen Maschinenbau GmbH can now look back on over 90 years of company history.
After Wilhelm Rixen and his employees initially focused exclusively on repairing fittings, another important pillar was added shortly afterwards. Soon after the company was founded, it began producing general standard parts and machine parts.
The Second World War again brought massive changes. The company transformed itself into a machine and apparatus manufacturer. The focus was on the manufacture of rollers for the wallpaper and plastics industry. At the same time, the company set up its own design department, with the help of which parts could now be developed, designed and subsequently built in-house.

After the reconstruction of the company, which had been severely damaged in World War II, another formative phase began. In addition to other business relationships, the so-called economic miracle years saw close cooperation with the German Federal Railways, for which Wilhelm Rixen Maschinenbau GmbH developed the first motor-driven rail grinding machines in 1954.
This machine not only offered a much more comfortable ride than comparable rail grinding machines, but also formed the basis for the company's own production and sales program of rail grinding machines, which still exists today.
In 1961, there was a change of ownership from company founder Wilhelm Rixen to his son Karl-Heinz Schawaller.
In the years that followed, rotary seals were manufactured for the Louis Pohl engineering and design office, among others. These included pipe inlets, swivel joints and connection heads.
In 1976, Rixen initially took over the distribution of the Louis Pohl engineering office. This was the basis for the development of designs with modern PTFE-based sealing components for waste water and environmental technology.
This program was continuously expanded in the following years and is today the main product of Wilhelm Rixen Maschinenbau GmbH.

After many successful years under the management of Karl-Heinz Schawaller, two long-standing employees, Manfred Willms and Pierre Schawaller, took over the management of the company in 2001.
In 2014, the company moved from its previous location in Ottensener Völckersstraße to Pinneberg, around 18 kilometers northwest. Since then, the address has been „Am Hafen 58“ in 25421 Pinneberg.
Just three years later, Wilhelm Rixen Maschinenbau GmbH acquired a stake in Reining Heisskühlung GmbH & Co. KG – with which intensive business relations had already existed for many years.
Following successful certification, Wilhelm Rixen Maschinenbau GmbH has been able to call itself a „Certified Welding Company for Pressure Equipment” in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3834-3 and AD 2000 HP0 since 2022.
